Hello!!
I’m Jenny from mandarlyn!!
Today I’m going to tell you a story about Jeju Grandma Yeongdeung!!
Grandma Yeongdeung is Jeju’s goddess of the wind, and she protects the ocean around the island.
Every year in Febuary on the lunar calendar, she comes for a visit.
First the goddess says hello to the 500 Generals on halla mountain. Then she spends two weeks on Halla mountain. Then she spends two weeks admiring the flowers around the island.
Her lost step before returning home is the islet of Udo.
And she never forgets to spread the seeds of life in the ocean on her way back, so there will always be lots of food to catch!!
Many people on Jeju made a living from fishing and diving for seafood.Safety and a good catch were always at the top of their minds.
So they were always sure to throw big welcoming and goodbye parties for their beloved Grandma Yeongdeung.
When the wind blew strong, they knew she was upset. If the weather was nice and warm and everything
was calm, they could tell she was in a good mood!!
Here is a picture that I drew of Grandma Yeongdeung!
I think Grandma Yeongdeung is a very kind Grandma that helps many people from living in Jeju island.
I hope that Grandma Yeongdeung is always happy in the sky💗💕💖!!
I hope you enjoyed my story of Grandma Yeongdeung!
See you next time!!!
