Hello!!
I’M Jenny from mandarlyn!!
Today I am going to tell you a story of Jeju island’s story.
The story is(drumroll)…The Gotjawal forest!
Let’s begin!!
Gotjawal are mysterious forests found all over Jeju.
In the Island’s dialect, got means forest and jawal means a place covered in a jumble of rocks, trees and vines.
Like so much of Jeju’s environment, Gotjawal are the products of volcanic activity. What makes them so mysterious? Plants that grow in warm areas are found there right alongside ones that grow in cold places!
People didn’t think the Gotjawal were valuable because they have so many rocks and trees that make it difficult to do any farming.
But scientist have discovered that they allow lots of water to seep into the ground, and air from below the earth escapes upwards.
So they act like the lungs of the local ecosystem.
Now we know how valuable they really are.
I have a feeling by reading the story that we have to think that every natue is valuable and special and helpful for our special lives.
Let’s protect the Earth and our beautiful environment and nature!!!
